WEEKEND BREAK TO VISIT CADAQUÉS

The Costa Brava is one of the favorite destinations of tourists travelling every year to Catalonia. This region hides charming villages that will delight all visitors. One of them, a must if you travel to Figueres with the high-speed Renfe-SNCF en Coopération trains is Cadaqués. You cannot miss it!

Cadaqués is a small fishing village of medieval origin located less than half an hour away from Figueres, and situated between Cap de Creus and Golf de Roses. Its charm lies in its history and its natural, cultural and gastronomic richness. Its small white houses overlooking the sea are erected around a natural bay and countless labyrinthine streets that attract the senses of visitors. It is essential to go for a stroll in the old town up to its highest point where the church Santa Maria de Cadaqués stands. From here the views of the village, the coast and even the Cala Nans lighthouse are astonishing.
It is a must to get lost amid its cobbled streets, lie down in some of its coves such as Sa Conca, Es Sortell or Port d’Alguer, and visit the modernist building of Casa Serinyana. The visitors cannot either miss to sit on the terrace of a local restaurant and eat a traditional rice or ‘suquet’.

Cadaqués is a village characterized by the figure of Salvador Dalí, who lived for many years in Portlligat, a village located just ten minutes away by car. His house, which was enlarged on several occasions, has different pieces and works of the artist. Well worth going, although it is required to book previously online some days before.
Besides there are lots of activities to do in the area: go for a stroll in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus or visit one of the towns within a few minutes ride such as Colera, El Port de la Selva or Sant Martí d’Empúries.

How to get to Cadaqués from Figueres? . Three buses from the company Sarfa travel daily from the central bus station of Figueres to Cadaqués, although in summertime the schedule is extended. Tickets can be purchased directly at the bus station and the journey takes about one hour.
Getting there by car might be more comfortable, but finding a parking place on summer can be a nightmare. The drive takes about 50 minutes. From Figueres, take the road C-260 to Roses and then the local road GI-614 that ends in the center of town.

The northern Costa Brava has beautiful landscapes, but also with a lot of charming villages to explore.
Cadaqués is within your reach with the high-speed Renfe-SNCF en Coopération trains. Go ahead and experience some astonishing days in Figueres and this stunning fishing village!
