Paris is often refereed as the “City of Light” but this is especially true during Christmas. From the end of November to the first days of January, the avenues, monuments and some emblematic buildings are decorated with elegant and festive lights and Christmas decorations. Paris is decorated with this Christmas lightings from the end of November until the day after the Three Wise Kings. A magic atmosphere that you cannot miss!

You should visit some of the traditional Christmas markets that can be found in many streets in Paris. The biggest one is located in the Defense District with more than 350 stands where you will different of Christmas decorations. Another good recommendation is to visit the popular market of the Champs-Elysées or the market located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district.



Paris on ice

One of the favorite activities of both locals and tourists is to ice skating in an open-air rink. The city has several ice skating rinks but the most relevant is located at  the “L’Hotel de Ville” at the Town Hall Square. Many of these rinks are free and children and adults will have a lot of fun there. 


Shopping 



The Lafayette Galleries

Paris is well-known for the quantity and the quality of its boutiques and shopping centers. If you are willing to purchase some Christmas presents you can find anything you need in the shops of the city: from a small souvenir to a big and luxurious present. We recommend you to visit the Lafayette Galleries if you want to admire its spectacular Christmas tree.



The “cuisine parisienne”

If you want to taste the sophisticated French cuisine for Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve, we recommend you to make a reservation with some days of anticipation because many restaurants are closed during these days.

Besides, you should take a “Bateaux Mouche” for enjoying a romantic trip along the Seine. Some of them offer a pack that includes the cruise, supper and the New Year’s party!
