If low temperatures are already impacting on your body, it is time to have a break and visit the south. Mild temperatures will help you forget about cold and long winters and invite you to explore this treasure of the Catalan geography. Only 5 hours away by train, Tarragona opens its doors for you to discover its magic and unforgettable corners. The trains of Renfe-SNCF in Cooperation will take you to Tarragona at high-speed and you will have the chance to discover the city's treasures.
Without doubt, one of the main attractions are its beaches. The province of Tarragona has numerous beaches offering long walks in the winter sun. The fine and golden sand and crystal clear water are their main attractions. Following, we suggest five beaches you cannot miss.
First choice is Cala Fonda and neighboring Cala de la Roca Plana. These beaches are only accessible by foot through a pathway joining Tarragona (city) and Tamarit that borders the coast along a peaceful walk.
The Platja de les Madrigueres finds shelter in the lovely village of El Vendrell. It is a large beach to stroll around for hours admiring the vineyards, olive trees and other fruity trees that can be found along the beach.
If we travel to the south we reach the village of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and the peaceful Platja del Torn. It is an unspoiled beach surrounded by a protected natural environment. The natives tell this beach was home for pirates who attacked convoys of goods crossing the area.
Next to L’Hospitalet de l’Infant we discover the fishing village of L’Ametlla de Mar. This town has more than 14 kilometers of beaches and coves. Among them there is the beautiful Cala de Sant Jordi, at the foot of the medieval castle of Sant Jordi d’Alfama, and the spectacular Platja de Santes Creus surrounded by pine trees and rocks.
Our last proposal is the stunning beach of Punta del Fangar. It is located at the end of the Ebro delta in a unique natural environment. Do not hesitate to approach the Far del Fangar and wander along the paths of the delta.
In addition to this, the region of Tarragona also offers exquisite cuisine. Visit the fishing ports of Sant Carles de la Ràpita and Tarragona and enjoy tasting a large variety of fish and seafood dishes. Don't miss the caramot shrimp, a real local star that you can enjoy with a good glass of wine.
