In 2020, Escale à Sète, the festival of maritime traditions, will be back. From April 7 to 13, the fishing village of Sète, located just 30 km from Montpellier, will make the sea the undisputed star of the show, through dozens of activities including: visits by official boats, presentation of seafaring trades, tasting of seafood products and much more. You can't miss the first event of this spring! Our Renfe-SNCF in Cooperation trains connect several Spanish cities with Sète so that you don’t miss this celebration of maritime traditions.
Escale à Sète celebrates its 10th edition

Escale à Sète was first held back in 2010, in a scenario that could not be more propitious. This town was created under the mandate of Louis XIV and soon played an important role as a maritime and river port thanks to its strategic location. This 2020, then, the event will celebrate its 10th anniversary in an edition that promises to be unforgettable.
To celebrate it as it deserves, this event will count more than 130 traditional boats, including lateen sails and schooners, among others. Many of them will be accessible to the public, who will have the opportunity to visit them. Not only will the Sète quay look more colourful than usual, but it is also a magnificent opportunity to enter the heart of historical boats from different corners of the world.
The special guest of this 2020 edition will be the Netherlands, which has already confirmed its attendance with two impressive ships: the three-mast schooner Oosterschelde and the brig Morgenster. The latter, by the way, is the star of this year's line-up.
For 6 days, this French town will also be synonymous with the International Festival of Maritime Songs and Music. This means that the concerts will be a fundamental part of this event, although always with melodies linked to the maritime tradition. The best thing about it is that the music will be a living entity, as there will be concerts not only on the stage, but also on the quay itself, in the parades and even on board the boats.
Exhibitions and various activities will be organized to extend a festival dedicated to the sea and maritime culture – Facebook page
During that week, there will be impressive nautical and crew parades
, naval battles, exhibitions, traditional oars, etc. Escale à Sète is an event aimed to everyone, and that is why conferences or maritime games are offered to the public as well as educational workshops. Finally, we must not forget one of the most eagerly awaited main courses: gastronomy. The seafood tastings will make the experience enjoyable for the taste buds too.
Key points of the event
A festive atmosphere will be experienced throughout Sète during the days of the event. However, we recommend that you take note of what the key points will be so that you don't miss out on anything. The Quai de la Savonnerie and Saint Louis will be busier than usual those days, but so will the local fish market and canals.
