The Palais des Papes

Enclosed by the old walls, the Palace is the largest European Gothic building of the Middle Ages.

The pope's residence is composed of the Old Palace and the New Palace, which represent the two stages of construction. The Palace currently hosts exhibits, theme visits, concerts and festivals.

The Pont d'Avignon (Saint Bénezet)

Designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO, Avignon's famous Medieval bridge has borne witness to the history of the city.

Built between 1171 and 1185, the bridge was destroyed and rebuilt many times after wars and the flooding of the Rhône River. Only four of the original 22 arches are still standing.

The walls

The walls are part of the monumental city, which was declared a World Heritage Site.

Built between 1355 and 1370, these 4.3 km long medieval fortifications surround the old town. It is a very important testimony to medieval times with 39 towers and gates.
